EXCEPTIONALLY HEAVY RAIN.

On Saturday night a change in the ""^ weather was experienced in Asbbur- I ton. Aftor- a pleasant clay, the sky. became dull and overcast, and during the night rain foil for a time,' but it cleared off in the morning. . About 4* p:m. yesterday light rain commenced ' to fall, and towards evening it became heavy. Throughout the night torrential rain Ml, and continued till about 6 a.m., when it ceased. "The total fall:'recorded at 9 a.m. this morning was 111 points. Thoro was no frost this morning. The atmosphere to-day was cold, and drizzling rain fell a s t intervals. The maximum temperature was 4(5 degrees.

The Government. Meteorologist's forecost to-day was as follows:—The indications are for southerly moderate to strong winds, freshening. The weather will probably prove squally, with heavy showers, and will probably become very cold, Barometer rising shortly.
