Doer herds, says the Levin (Horowhenua) "Chronicle," resemble poultry flocks in at least one particular: no matter how good the parent stock a proportion of "wasters" will develop. The Wellington Acclimatisation Society's herd at Paraparaumu has reached this undesirable state, and arrangements for culling it have been made by the society with Mr Bould, of Levin, who shortly will go down to Paraparaumu with a sporting rifle. It is now several years since this work was last carried out: on that occasion Mr Bould killed in the vicinity of 500 "wasters." It is likely that the venison from the approaching slaughter will be presented to some of the patriotic societies.
