:■'- Among the names' recently gazetted as Justices of the Peace is:that of Mr John Penny, of. llakaia. Private P. Daly, of the Eighteenth Reinforcements, who is reported to havo been killed in action in France, was the third son of Mr P. Daly,'of Hinds. He was educated at the Hinds School, and prior to enlistment was farming at Ealing. • Mrs B. Marsden, Suffolk Street, Ashburton, has received advice that her son, Private D. M. Marsden, was admitted to ' Walton-on-Thames Hospital on June 13 suffering from gunshot wound in the leg. Privato Marsden left New Zealand with the Thirteenth Reinforcements.
■ Private Albert Edward Bennett Sounders, killed -in-action oil June /";,' was the eldest son of Mr Lionel Saundersj of llakaia. He spent his nineteenth birthday at Trentham Camp and his twentieth in the trenches. He was wbunded in the head in the Soname operations in .September last. Of . a 'quiet, unassuming nature, he was held in high esteem by all who knew him.
JThe relatives of Private- L. G. Tilson, Hinds, have boon advised ; thathe . was .killed in action, in . France oil 1 June 14. Sparrdw, who is baking charge of: the: Methven parish. Mr P. Coote . presented Mr Sparrow with a ..handsome study chair, as an evidence of ,the Fairfield people's, £ood wishes. Mr Sparrow suitably responded. The vicar (Rev. H. N. Wright) said'he was sorry to lose Mr Sparrow froiii his parish, but wished him . every success in his new sphere..
