SOLDIERS COME HOME

ASHBURTON MEN WELCOMED.

Private E. C. Baker, who left with, the Fifth Reinforcements, was the only. soldier who returned to Ashburton last. evening. He was accorded a welcome by his Worship the Mayor (Mr R. Galbraith) and a large number of local, residents, and was warmly cheered. Private Baker has not fully recovered from his severe wounds, and has jfco> use crutches.

Private C. B. Harold, who left with the Ninth Reinforcements, and who was wounded in the right arm during the battle of the Somme, and Private S. P. McCallum, who left with the Seventh Reinforcements, and was wounded in the leg, returned home by the express; from the north this afternoon. They were welcomed at the station. by the Mayor and a number of friends.
