FRIEDLANDER v. GRIGG.

S> To the Editor " Gtjabdiam."

\ Sir,—ln my totter to you of tho ' Vdf-h. ultimo 1 asked it Mr Fnedlander's donation to the Borough School was an acknowledgment that ho had lost tho wa ffer -between us, and said that if it Vas" not so tho matter was not yet closed, and other means must be found for obtaining a settlement of the controversy between us. Having received no answer to my question; and feelmg that, in the interests of tho Belgian Fund, as. well as in justice to myself, a decision should be obtained, I instructed a firm of solicitors to prepare a simple statement of the cas-3 to bo placed before Sir John Findlay, K.C., 'Wellington—nothing but facts to be stated, and no names to bo mentioned, Mr Friedlander being represented by the letter "A," and the letter "B " representing myself. After perusing this statement of fact and a copy of the Racing Club's rules. Sir John ¥indlay was asked tho following questions:— 1. "Was the resolution of the committee to vote a certain sum of the Racing Club's funds to the Belgian Relief Fund 'special business' ?"— Answer: The grant was "ordinary" business and not " special " business. 2. "Do the rules provide that no special business can be transacted by the committee unless notice is given of a special meeting, when special business only can be taken ?"—Answer: "Thefe is certainly nothing in the rules either express or implied which would justify the contention that no special business can be transacted by the committee unless notice is given of a special meeting, when special business ÜBa^y\can be taken." < 3. '<SWho should hand his cheque to -the Belgian Fund—'A ' or 'B ' ?"— Answer: "I am therefore of opinion that 'A' should hand his cheque for £1000 to the Belgian Fiirid." I enclose Sir John Findlay's opinion, which kindly publish in> full; and I now leave Mr Friedlander in the hands of the public and the committee of the • Belgian Fund. E. J. F. GRIGG.
