PEACE TALK.
A QUESTION IN THE COMMONS. MR ASQUITH'S REPLY. (Received June 1, 9.35 a.m.) LONDON, May 31. ; In tho House of Commons, Sir A. B. Markhani asked, in view of Dr. Hollwog's declaration that Germany was ready to make peace and' was blaming the Allies-.for withholding peace, whether tho Allies would inform Germany, through a neutral, of tho definite terms upon which they were willing to make I peace, provided Germany would act | similarly.
Mr Asqiiith said there was nothing in Dr. Hoilwcg's statement that indi-j jcatod that Germany was prepared to consider terms safeguarding tho in- ! terosts of tho Allies and tho future peaco of Europe. Ho had nothing to add to Sir Edward Grey's recent speech in the House, of Commons. Sir A. E. Markham asked: "What ond will bo gained by not informing Germany wha,t our actual terms of peace will be?" Mr Asquith: "Tho question is debateable. I cannot usefully add to what wo have already said."
