To receive only ;i quarter of a pound of meat and" two eggs each weekly sounds dreadful, but vegetables .are abundant. Afipnragus is cheaper than ever. The >is!: Hiiupiy is exroJlent, though there is littJo butter or oil for cooking purposes. '' Berlin wus joyful as ever. All tho mrecourses are active, and 1,500.000 marks, (sibout £75,000) a clay is passed through the pari-mufcwcJ; but everybody, except the officials, is utterly wonry of tho war. The Oer-' mans cannot understand why the Allies persist. This week all our towns were dressed with flags on account of the defoai of Italy, who is supposed to be finished. All the good news, however, does not affect the desire for the end of tho war. Tho belief is universal !• that v.t sJinJ]'have a victorious peace before the winter." * I
