WAR COMMITTEE CRITIOISED.
LACK OF QUICK DECISION. (Received Juno 1, 1.40 p.m.) LONDON, May 01. In the Hoiifio of Lords, Lord Bcresford criticised tho War Committee. "Our military and political conduct of the war did not appear to be .■.successful," ho said. "Wo suffered through lack bis quick decision at critical moments; r : We must stop Birrollism abroad. 5? , ; Lord CrevFO said that no large movement was sanctioiiod without consultation with the naval and military advisers. The committee consisted of Mr Asquith, Mr McKenna, Mr Chamberlain, Lord Kitchener, Mr Balfour, and Mr Lloyd George, and all urgent war matters camo before them. Lord Middlcton complained of the danger of confidential papers going astray while the members of the Cabinot numbered 23. Lord Crowe replied that 99 per cent. of war matters did not go to the Cabinet, as tho War Committee's decision was final. Lord Salisbury contended that there ought to bo a single Minister responsible) for initiating a policy.
