On Tuesday iGeneral Smuts seized the crossings of the:Lumi River with insignificant loss. Several enemy coun-ter-attacks were successfully repelled. The Lumi is a stream flowing from tho .south-east of Mount Kilima-njaro into Lake Jipe. It irrigates the reraarkably fertile oasis of Taveta, on the frontier of British East Africa, at the foot of Kilima-njaro' (18,700 feet). iTiio German frontier, running southoasli from Lake Victoria Nyanza, forms a '''bulge" to take in the groat mountain. The British forces are advancing from. Voi, on the Mombasa-Uganda Railway, from which a branch line is being built towards the German frontier.. , • ■
