CHANGE IN THE COMMAND.
LAN HAMILTON • GOES HOME
LONDON, October 19. The War Office announcos that Lieutenant-General Sir Charles Monro has been appointed to command the forces at Gallipoli. Sir lan Hamilton is returning to England to report. Lieutenant-General Sir W. R. Birdwood commands, pending Sir Charles Monro's arrival.
[Lieutenant-Genoral ■ Sir • Charles Monro, X.C.8., the new commander at the Dardanelles, was born^in 1860, and entered the Army in 1879. He saw service on the Indian Frontier 1879-1680, and in Sooth Africa 1899----1901. He commanded a brigade in Ireland for five years, and a division of the Territorial Force for two years, and was for a time in command of the Hytlie School of Musketry. General Bi'rdwood, who takes charge temporarily, has been in oommand of the Australian and New Zealand Army Corps since the beginning of the operations.]
