ASHBURTON COUNTY COUNCIL. NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that the following' amended By-laws regulating the motor and cycle traffic upon the Ashburton Traffic Bridge have been made by the Ashburton County Council, and will como into force on the first day of November, 1915. RESOLVED, that, in pursuance and exercise of the powers vested in it by ?'The Counties: Act, 1908," '"The Motor Regulation" Acfvl9oß ; " and, of all other powers enabling it in that behalf, the County Council of the County of Ashburton doth hereby revoke Number 13 of the By-laws made by it fov regulating the Traffic upon the Bridge over the River Ashbuuton known as the Ashburton Traffic Bridge, and which came into force on the First day of January, one thousand nine hundred and 'ten, and also the several By-laws made by it for regulating .the use of Motor Cars upon the said Bridge and now in force; AND WHEREAS the Council is satisfied that the use of motors upon the said Bridge is" attended with risk of danger to the public; NOW this Council doth, in further pursuance and exercise of the powers conferred upon it by the said Acts, hereby make the following By-laws in lieu of and in substitution for the By-laws hereinbefore revoked :■ — '■ 1. No person shall ride or propel any bicycle or tricycle upon the Bridge at a greater rate of speed than 10 miles an hour. 2. The person in charge of a motojr shall not permit such motor to travel upon or along the Bridge at a greater rate of speed than 10 miles an hour. 3. During the period between sunset and sunrise the person in charge of any motor upon the Bridge shall carry a lamp attached to the. front of such motor or otherwise so placed as to exhibit a white light in the direction in which the motor is proceeding, such light to be of sufficient power to afford adequate means of signalling the ap- | proach andfposition of the motor. 4. Every motor cycle while upon the Bridge shall carry a muffler, and the person in charge of the cycle shall, so long as the cycle is upon the Bridge, keep the muffler in use. . 5. The person in charge of any motor upon the Bridge shallj if requested so to do by thedriver of any, , vehicle, or: any horseman or person in charge,ofianylive: stock, crossing the Bridge, stopl such motor until such vehicle, horseman, or. person ' in charge of live stock together with such live stock, is able to pass the motor. . In these By-laws the words "the Bridge" mean the Ashburton Traffic Bridge, as hereinbefore described, together with the approaches thereto, and any ramp used in connection therewith; and "Motor" has the same meaning as is given to it in Section 2 of "The Motor Regulation Act, 1908." Every person who shall commit a breach of either of the foregoing Bylaws shall be liable to a penalty.not exceeding £5. 10 11
