AN OFFICER'S APPEAL
SYDNEY, August 11
Big crowds, and tooting and beflagged steamers, welcomed the Ballarat's contingent of sick and wounded. A lieutenant said that those who had seen active sendee at the front were in a sense, changed men. Tho menwould nofc drink to excess, and he hoped the public would not, out of a sense of generosity, and good-fellow-ship, ply them with drink. Tho great majority did not want it.
