SIR lAN HAMILTON'S REPORT

The High Commissioner reports under date London, August 10, 6.45 p.m.:— .'.'

Sir lan Hamilton reports fighting at several points at Gallipoli during the last few days, when substantial progress was made. In the southern zone 200 yards were gained on the front. Three hundred yards were gained east of Krithia Road, and the gains were held, in spite of determined counter-attacks, which were repulsed with heavy loss to the enemy. Repeated attacks by Turks elsewhere in this zone were beaten off.

In several attacks tho French corps gave their whole-hearted co-operation and the greatest assistance.

In the Anzac zone, a footing was gained on.Chanak Bahr, a portion of Sami Bahr, and the crest was occupied aftor fierce fighting. The enemy losses were considerable.

An advance was commenced at night under cover of searchlights from destroyers. Elsewhere a fresh landing was successfully effected, and considerable progress made. Six hundred and thirty prisoners were taken, together with one Nordernfeldt gun, two bomb mortars, nine machine-guns, a large number of bombs, quantities of rifles, ammunition, and equipment.
