DUNEDIN, August 12. The charge against John Robert Henderson of stealing £5 received for ammunition, was concluded in the Supreme Court to-day. The jury returned a verdict of guilty, and added a rider expressing surprise at the lax mannor in which the Defence Department controls the supply of ammunition, as it seemed a common practice that ammunition is sold by officers of companies without proper authority. Accused was next charged with stealing, at Milton, £2 10s, an amount received by him for ammunition. The case is proceeding. The jury returned a" verdict or "guilty" against Henderson, supplementing the verdict with the following rider: "The jury recommends the prisoner to the mercy of the Court, and deprecates the las manner in which the books and moneys of the regiment have been managed." The next charge was of stealing £2 Bs, portion of a sum paid him for payment as camp pay. The jury returned a verdict of guilty. Henderson was found guilty on a charge of stealing £1 10s, an amount received for a military belt, and not guilty on ••a charge of stealing £7 8s 6d. The last charge against accused is proceeding.
