A letter has been received.by Mr G. F. Henry, of Auckland, from the Minister of Defence, advising him of the reoeipt of a cablegram f rO ni Sir Alex. Godley, stating that the King had conferred the Distinguished Conduct Medal upon Private W. J. Henry. Private Henry is the elder son of Mr G. F. Henry, and is a member of _ the Field 1 Ambulance. He was born in Timaru and educated in Christchurch, where ho learned the printing trade. Private Henry came to Auckland about eight years ago, and it was here that he qualified in ambulance duties. Recent-ly-he returned to Wellington, where he was - employed as a jobbing compositor in the Government Printing Office. He joined''the Main Expeditionary Force iii Wellington. Minister of Defence, General Godley stated that he had recommended two members of the New Zealand Engineers for "most conspicuous gallantry" in blowing up a Turkish blockhouse. The names of these two men, Lanee-Cor poral F. J. H. Fear and Sapper E. A. Hodges, were included in the list cabled from London on July 4, but no particulars wore then given regarding the circumstances in which they gained the distinction. Lance-Corporal Fear is a sun of Mr F. J. W. Fear, Willis Street, Wellington. Sapper Hodges is a son or Mrs Elizabeth Hodges, care of the High' Commissioner's Office, London, and joined tho New Zealand Contingent raisi-d in England. Advice lias been received through tho same official channels by Mrs Tilsley, 191 H.ousoti Street, Auckland, that the Distinguished Conduct Medal has been awarded to hor son, Sergeant Robert Tilslpy, Auckland Infantry • Battalion. Sen;;e'sv<-.l- Tilsley, who is 22 years of age, was working as an electrical engineer in Rotorua- when ho joined the Expoditioun.r-' Force. A casualty list issued on July 1 reported that he had been wounded and sent to- England.
