(Received July 27, 9.5 a.m.)
' LONDON, ■• July 26. The " Daily Chronicle's " Rome- correspondent telegraphs that an eyewitness of the Corso battle on July 22 states that victory was ,due to the Italians' stupendous artillery superiority. Five hundred cannon were massed against the enemy and fired continuously for several hours, spreading confusion and dismay. It is estimated that over 8000 Austrians fell!.
Austrian prisoners present a pitiable spectacle/ being thoroughly worn out. They declared that the defeat was due to the Austrians' inability to send sufficient reinforcements from Poland, and also to the non-arrival of heavy artillery, the newest guns being needed on the eastern front.
