MAX LEAVE IN A FORTNIGHT.
WELLINGTON, June 28
The hospital ship would have reached Wellington some days ago if the original arrangement had been-carried into effect, but there has been delay at Port Chalmers, where the Mrfheno is being fitted up for her new duties, The work has proved more difficult and extensive than was anticipated. Probably the vessel will bo ready to leave-Port Chalmers at the end of this week or the J>eginning of next. The Minister of Defence mentioned to-day that'the work requiring to be .done "after the arrival of th» Maheno" at Wellington would be likely to-occupy four or .five days, so that the hospital ship would not be able to leave New Zealand waters probably for a fort-
night y-ot. The medical staff hero would be ready to begin the equipment of the ship as soon as she arrived.
