UPPER ASHBURTON ROAD BOARD

The ordinary monthly meeting of | tlio Upper Ashhurton Road Board was i hold on Monday. Present:—Messrs 0. i J. Harper (Chairman), J. Farrell, A. j Horsey, Hunter Morris, J. Tucker, and James Allen. | The clerk took the. chair and reported, as returning officer, that the election had resulted in the re-election of the three retiring members (Messrs J. Farroil, J. Tucker, and J. Allen), | and that he had declared them duly elected. —It was decided that Mr C. J. Harper be again appointed chairman and treasurer, and that all cheques on the banking account be signed by him in'bonjunction.with any two members of the Board. The District Railway Engineer wrote stating that his Department was now willing to erect signals on level crossings and. asking where the Board would desire to have them placed.— The chairman stated lie had gone into the matter and instructed; the clerk to reply that the Board .would maintain signals at the following"places::—Westerfield, Laghmor,' and Fraser's Road, and at the Racecourse Road at the Ashburton Saleyards. Mr H. A. Lloyd wrote asking if the Board would consent to his removing the Board's office to a position further back on the section fronting Tancred Street, and stating that he would be pleased to wait on "the Board at its next mooting to explain matters. —It was decided that the chairman, Mr Farrell and Mr H. Morris be a committee to arrange the terms of the removal, with Mr Lloyd, with full power to act. -,

A letter was received from a. resident of Allenton complaining of the state of the footpaths from the Racecourse Corner to the Canterbury Flour Mills. —'It was decided that the matter be attended to, and left in the hands of the chairman and the member for the ward. The following roll alterations were ordered to bo made: —W. T. Lill to W. A. Lill, lot 1, Laghmor, 103 acres 3 roods 28 rfoles; R. Houston to H. Watts, R.S. 28.720, 228 acres 2 roods; E. E. Gill to L. H. Baxter, R.S. 26.766; Miss M. M. Rnwle to X E. Fussell, R. S. 11,002, 48 acres. Accounts amounting to £248 11s 7d were passed for payment.
