FEEUNC AGAINST GERMANS.
GLASS AND ASPHALT WORKERS ON STRIKE. ,
(Received June, 1, 10.15 a.m.) SYDNEY, June 1. The Red Cross Flower Day collections realised £1700, which will be devoted to purchasing comforts for the Dardanelles invalids. As a result of the employment of a number of Germans, 600 employees at the Sydney and Waterloo Glass Works struck. The Germans are expert blowers, mostly naturalised, and have been in the employ of the companies for years. A member of the Union management points out that tho putting off of the Germans means the throwing idle of many others, because , it is impossible to replace experts, j The company, has decided not to employ Germans whose work Britishers are able to do.
The employees at the Neuchatel Asphalt Works, which supply the City Council, struck because two Germans were employed. The management states that the Germans are naturalised, are married to Australian women, and have been employed for many years. The men have laid their case before the Council. ;
