IN NEW ZEALAND.

APPEAL TO WOMEN OF THE... DOMINION.;.;'

BY LADY LIVERPOOL.

WELLINGTON, August 6. The following is the text of an appeal from her Excellency the Countess of Liverpool, addressed -to the women - of New Zealand: — 1 "At this moment of our Empire's, needs. I desire to appeal to tho women of New Zealand to' assist me in trying to provide any necessaries which may bo required for those portions of the citizen army which is now mobilising for any; service which may be required of them. "My suggestion would be to start a fund in every centre under iv small committee of ladies. In the larger towns it might be, possible that the'Mayorehs would b& able to see her way to get such a committee together, and m the smaller localities I feel convinced it would be easy to find many who would willingly assist in such an undertaking. > "These committees shotild be prepared to receive contributions whether in money (however small

the sums), or in kind. If the latter, it appears to me that we could not do better than follow some of the suggestions made by the Commandant of the New Zealand Forces in to-day's newspapers, in which he .mentions underclothing, flannel shirts, socks, holdalls (containing knife, fork, and spoon), housewives (to contain needles, buttons, etc.), or contributions of materials to make •these, such as flannel, knitting wool, ■and "knitting needles, American doth, binding thread, and buttons.

i: After further consultation I will endeavour to find out in what manner a distribution would be most useful and practicable, and will, through the medium of the Press, convey the -conclusion which may be arrived at •on the subject.

■"I have taken this early oppor■huiitf? of. appealing to the women ■of Nal.-^ Zealand on this matter, and to obtain tlio most beneficial results it is.p^ontial that we should all be ?ruide«l by any suggestions which thp Doferoo Department may tbjink" 'drisirabJp." ■■' ■ . *'■
