THE WINTER SHOW.

POULTRY SOCIETY'S SECOND BIG EFFORT.

The attendance last evohing - 'was fairly good, and the .selections played by j.the Ash burton- Temperance Bras 3 Band were a good source of attraction. .The cash takings for the first day were £13 Is, as against £12 .16s last, year, asi improvement of ss.'

. There was :a fair attendance this morning, but this afternoon the show ' was very well patrpn iscd, chiefly by country people. A-'large attendance is expected this evening, when the show will be open from 7 o'clock. The Temperance Band will bo present, and with the two or three Ride-shows p.-k! sheep-guessing, .'.competitions, the show should provide much that isinterestL-" to visitors. - . The following completes' our report or" ''

THE EXHIBITS. Needle Work and Fancy Work.

The needlework and' fancy work skiio.r was a meritorious one', and the exhibits. iron* quite*tfie best that hayo, over boau shown -locally. In evory; ctess iht> judges had great difficulty in m?kin'"the awards, 'and' they stated to it reporter that, it was almost unfair' th.> i, only two prizes are- offered i:i -QSi-h . class, when nearly every,, exhibit whs/ worth an award. 'In the'camisole classan excellent piece o,f w ; ork submitter! by a Mrs Evans would 'have boeri placed > I'first had the article been completed. It comprised only the. top part of that particular garment. Doileys were very good", whilst the fancy cushion were . excellent „iji design and work. The table centres shown were splendid, and the work was beautiful and, delicate.' The crochet work made the best display. A little woollen coat pvfc in by Mrs W. J. ■ Cunningham was <he outsta.nding article, and had - it been matched against other woollen crochet work, instead of against cotton crochet . work, would have easily taken the first prize. The judges were very warm in their praise of its execution, but for the rqason stated had to turn it down. They intend to recommend the commit-, tee to make a separate class i:est year \ for woollen crochet work. Extra Exhibits.

. There wore not many extra exhibits on view. The New "Zealand Motor Supply Company had a Jfivo-seator Overland car for display, and Mr E. C. Clements a Little three-seuter car. The Singer Sowing Machine Coinmtary had an exhibit of machines, ana Wr • C. E. Bailey • had on view the Connaught, Rudge-Multi, and GovernorIxion motor-cycles, as well as the Gane milking machine. Mr T. Revell's exhibit comprised Dorno separators, and seeds a-h! patent foods. ( The following is the" , , % PRIZE LIST, the figures in parentheses , being the . number of entries in each class: — .
