' HASTINGS? May 6. The Hawke's Bay Jockey Club's Autumn Meeting opened to-day in fine weather. The attendance was a record for the course. The Hon. Messrs F. H: D. Bell and W. Fraser were present, and the former opened the club's new buildings, which had been erected at a cost of £35.000. The totalisator handled £23.656, as compared with £15,429 for the corresponding day last year. The track was heavy. Follow-
ing are the details of the concluding events of the first day's racing: —
Nursery Handicap—Hoy 1, Chakwana 2, QueeTilike 3. • Won by a length and a-half. Time, lmin 4 3-ssec.
Hawke's B.ov Can Handicap, of 700 soys. One mile and a-hn,lf.—Kooya 1, Exnoct 2, Sea Pink ,3. In a punishing fiaish, Kooya won by a noso. Sea Pir«k two lengths-away third. Time, 2min 42 l-ssec.
Karamu Hurdle Handicap—Player 1, JTlingot 2, Hurakia 3. Time, 3min 25 ;ec.
Poukawa Hack Handicap—Chortle 1, Sir Alba 2, Anguish 3, Won easily by four lengths. Time, lmin 18 2-ssec.
: Autumn ■Handicap—Diavolo 1, Mysteriarch 2, Bed Book 3. Won by a nose, a neck between second and third. Time, lmiii 55 3-osec.
The disappointing mare Belette, who 3ias been leased to a southern trainer for some time by her owner, A. Pringle, is returning to the Ashburton trainer (says "Argus" in the Christchurch "Star"). The filly showed a lot of speed early in her career and looked like being a good one, but after continuous work she became very fracfcious at the post ,in her races and repeatedly refused to strike a gait. She ran her best race,to date at the-For-bury Park Club's meeting last week. The filly is n- well-bred one; being by +he defunct sire Prince Imperial, from Fannvwood.
