Horatio Bottomley and Julius' Elias, representing the printers, were summoned for articles in "John Bull" containing a proposal and schemes with respect to tickets in lotteries run in Switzerland, called " Grand National Sweepstake—John Bull Derby Sweep." In each case a certain sum was promised to charities.

Bottomley contended that the article constituted a legitimate newspaper controversy. The .casa was adjourned.
