A POLICE RAID.
'" ON CHINESE GAMBLiNG DENS. WELLINGTON, February 18. Chinese premises in Taranaki and Haining Streets were raided to-night and three Chinamen and three Sm-o-peans were arrested on charges of conducting or taking part in pakapoo lotteries. One of the Chinese is said to be a collector for a pakapoo banker and his capturo is regarded as the most important of the lot. In Haining Street considerable excitement prevailed, the- police having got through the gamblers' pickets by strategy, and when it was observed that the house- was taken by storm there \vev& many hurried exits from the adjacent premises and some remarkable fence-climbing exploits are reported.
