LIVING WAGE ADVOCATED.

The Council of the Churches, in a -'manifesto 'signed by 'leading clergymen ■aud philanthropists,, advocates a living wage* because- of Christian ..principles. It; states, that the signatories believe that the Churches are not exercising anything like, the proper influence withiutheir power upon social life. While wealth and opportunities for' enjoyment are constantly' increasing in., the upper and middle classes, multitudes are weakened in faculty by lack of subsistence^' and deprived of hope and happiness in life.
