At'the Empire Parliamentary banquet at the Savoy to welcome the Parliamentary delegation on their return, Lord Haldane, who presided, said the visit had done something to draw closer the overseas and the British Parliamente. " They had,", he, said, i " much to learn from overseas. Australia, with her Labour Government, had'handled defence in a way that surprised and edified us. The. States, notably New South Wales and Victoria, dealt with education in a spirit of enlightenment which he . hoped, the I Motherland would one day realise." Lord Emmott paid a tribute to the lavish hospitality displayed. The out-' standing fact was that for good or il. .the future of the Empire must rest on a democratic, basis, and the /Empire myst/stand for just labour conditions.
