SUNDAY SCHOOL WORKERS' ASSOCIATION.

I The first quarterly meeting of the j newly-constituted. Sunday School Workers' Association of the Ashburton district was held on Tuesday night in the Baring Square Church. The prosi- j dent (Mr E. Buchanan) was in the J chair, and, in spito of inclement ( weather, there was an attendance* of about 60 representatives from various denominations. A short time was occupied with necessary routine business, and then Mr George Tiller, of' Wellington, was introduced by the chairman. Mr Tiller, who is an expert in the kindergarten system, has charge of the Taranaki Street Methodist Sunday School infant department, where the most modern methods of religious instruction are in operation. Mr Tiller's demonstration of sand table work at Thursday night's meeting evoked unusual interest, and it would be impossible -to. describe how this " make-believe " object-lesson impressed itself on the adults of all ages, who for the time being were asked to consider themselves- dots of from three to eight years old. The subject of the lesson-was David and Goliath, and, in addition to some admirable sand table work, Mr Tiller, who evidently has artistic ability, used coloured chalks on the blackboard to display the Biblical contest, so fascinating to most boys and girls of tender years. The demonstration concluded with a Nature study, in which the coloured chalks were again in evidence, and, ' without indicating it in words, the moral was\ apparent, and evoked well-deserved [ applause. It is seldom that Sunday school workers of Ashburton have such an opportunity of witnessing a demonstratipn. like- that given by Mr Tiller, who" was heartily thanked by the chnil-man. During the evening Mr Tiller explained the kindergarten system, as recommended by Mr Archibald, ,of the London Sunday School Union, and also as adopted by Mr Tiller himself in the school he represents in Wellington. Thp proceedings were brought to a close by singing the Doxoloey. after which refreshments were handed round by the ladies of Baring Square I Sunday School.
