TRAMCARS TO RUN. MEN VETO A STRIKE.

AUCKLAND, November 2.4.

The Tramways Union has resolved in favour of returning to work, and the tramways will- start with a full service on Wednesday morning.

The men debated their position at considerable length this afternoon:, and a secret ballot resulted in a majority

of 50 (216 to 166) in favour of rescinding the resolution to cease work when the special police >or free labour appeared on the waterfront. The meeting was attended by 412 men out of 590. The men are ready to start whenever the Tramway Company is' ready to give them work. The union will .meet to-morrow afternoon to consider ■■' a proposal made by the Strike Committee, which in no way affects the decision already arrived at.

" Work will be' resumed immediately I can get coal," ;said Mr J, J. Walklate, general manager of tho. Tramways Company, to-night. "'I do not anticipate any -difficulty in getting supplies, and I niltieipate a full service will: be running :on Wednesday morning.' Men will be put on to-morrow to cleali the tracks and get things into running order. An effort will be made to,get 200 tons of,coal into the powerhouse to start the service."
