MEXICO CITY, .October. 14.
A witness of the fighting states that. .General Alvirez and 400 -men were "ambushed near Torreon, 'and only.four of the force escaped.
General Alvirez, when hopelessly surrounded, broke his sword, and. sat on his horse, calmly waiting till he-was-shot.
The rebel general removed the body to Torreon, and conspicuously displayed it, suspended from a telegraph pole.
