MEETINGS.

ASHBURTON ORCHESTRAL

SOCIETY

The annual meeting of the Ashburton Orchestral Society was held ' last evening. There was a large attendance of members, and Mr H. A. Gates presided. The annual report stated that it was a matter for extreme, gratification :that the society Was at last able.to commence a season without: a single liability. The small credit at the bank, together with the assets (comprised of music, chairs, etc.) made the position of the society very good indeed. The season had been commenced with a debit balance of £18 16s, so that it would be seen that from a financial point of view the year had been eminently satisfactory. The society was also strong numerically, and the roll at present stood at 130 honorary members anl 25 playing Jtnembers. These numbers were the highest in the history of the society. The balance-sheet showed receipts for the year to be £119 ,14 S Bd, and the expenditure £119 Is '6d, the credit balance therefore being 13s 2d. The assets of the society were valued at £28 ss. ■■■ ; '''-/..I.'.On the motion of 'Mr H. A. Humphreys and Mr E.
