TUITION BY CORRESPONDENCE.

As. the. result of complaints about the examinations..- imposed under the new regulations on detectives and constables desiring .■ to qualify for promotion, ./the' Commissioner of Police (Mr Cullen) stated to-day that although,such ;examina^ tions would not entail more than: was asked from a fifth or sixth standard boy, thc> authorities had decided on a; step to facilitate and encourage members .of tho force to prepare ■ for advancement. They had aiTanged with an experienced educational coach to teach by correspondence air candidates who contemplated sitting for the Sep-tember-examinations under the. regulations. This tuition would embrace the general knowledge subjects in the syllabus, and the services, of the ooach would be available free' of cost to any policeman or detective in New Zealand who cared to avail himself of them. Th<> name of the coach is kept secret at present.
