CEMENT WORKERS.
AUCKLAND, April 7.
The Auckland Waterside Workers' Union has been asked not to Handle cement from the Warkworth Cement Company, it being alleged that the members of the Cement Workers' Union affiliated to the Federation of Labour have been subject to victimisation. The Union took a ballot on the question of seceding from, the Federation, and the proposal was rejected by 97 to 17, after which forty men were dismissed by the company, including the secretary of the Union, on the ground of slackness of work, though the Union states that when work was again brisk other men were taken on in their places. The company asserts that the men were dispensed with owing to real slackness of work, and deny the charge of victimisation. The secretary of the Watersiders' Union will leave for Warkworth to-day to investigate the allegations.
