Tim Rev. W. L. Salfcer and Mrs Salter arrived from the north' by- th# second express to-day. . The Hon. Harry Lawson,' M.P.y tor, ' Mile End division in the British Parliament, has been elected chairman of' , the Empire Press Union. • . A "Gazette 9' notice published last week contains the following cablegram: from the Secretary of State for tb* Colonies;—" His Majesty ' the King commands that the wife of the' Governor of New Zealand shall have a thfc dignity and style in all official documents and on all occasions of ' her Excellency.'" V , ■ .'. The Hon. W. H.. Herries leaves Wei-' lington for the South on- Monday "nejrt^ to complete his-inspection of the rail-' ways. He will travel over all th»main lines of the South Island,. and' -' expects to be absent from Wellington " ' for a month. The Rev. F. Copeland, of Temuk«, passed through Ashburton by the second express for the north last evening, and will in about ten^ days leave the shores of New Zealand- for Samoa, where he will take up missionary work. He is well known in Ashburton, and several of his- friends and admirers met him on the arrival of the train fro wish him good-bye.
