In responding to the toast of "Local Industrie^" at a farewell function to Mr and Mrs John Muir at Tokonui, Southland, Mr Hi Chisholm said that his business as, blacksmith and wheelwright was the oldest established in the district, as it had been started over thirty, years !ag6. In 1 the towns, to be successful >in business, ,a man had to specialise; but in. a country business likev his that could not, be done, as he had to do a little of everything. At one time, among other work which he undertook, was that of dentistry, and many of his patients used to depart in a not very pleasant mood. If he had specialised in dentistry he might have got to the top of the tree, as he noticed that dentists were able to ride about in motor-cars, which was more than he could do.
