Although Christchurch enticed the greater number of pleasure-seekers, a good many preferred the attractions of their own county and a number of picnic parties left Ashburton this morning for Ashton and Wakanui beaches and the mouth of the river, whilst a few decided to have a quiet time with the rod. The Domain and its sports grounds were but poorly patronised, though a fair number congregated on the bowling green, where a few friendly games were played.
