DUNEDIN BAKERS' DISPUTE.

IS THE AUCKLAND AWARD t A DOMINION ONE?

(Per Press Association.)

DUNEDIN, November 8

A point of ■much- interest to workers and employers was discussed at the Arbitration Court, this morning, when the Dunedin bakers' and pastrycooks' dispute came up for discussion. The President ■: (Mr Justice Sim) asked if the union was not prepared to accept the award that had been made? The Auckland and Wellington Unions' representatives said the claim of the local union was not on all fours with those of the northern unions. The President said that when the Court heard the Auckland dispute it was understood that any award which might be made should govern the rest of the Dominion.: The Court thought it ought to be accepted without further discussion- His Honour intimated that if they did not want a similar award to that; in Wellington and Auckland, the matter had better stand over till next year. They had their choice. It was an, improper attempt to ' go back on what was really an understanding between the employers arid workers. The Dunedin employers and workers were; represented at Auckland. His Honour .said, the- union would be wise to apply for'air award now. The Union's representative asked the Court to allow .him an hour or two to confer with- the.. Union, and the matter was held, over till the afternoon. ''.':.
