At the sittings of the Empire Trade Commisision Lord Avebury introduced a deputation advocating an Empire trade mark. The Commissioners were sympathetic. Several ,'v British firms have given notice of their desire to give evidence in opposition to the proposal.
Representatives ■■■ of the ■ Irish Industrial Association' complained "that the Commonwealth treated poplins as wool instead of silk. It was important that the Commonwealth should institute a special definition of Irish pot-still whisky, which did not come within the definitions of "all malt" or " blended."
Representatives of the Incorporated Society of Meat Importers complained of the substitution of inferior foreign meat in English shops for, Australian and New Zealand. They commended the' Christchurch Meat Company's metal labelling. A large amount of the best Canterbury lamb was sold in the "West End as the best English;
