LAWN TENNIS.

WELLINGTON, February, 23. The quarterly meeting of the Council of New Zealand Lawn Tennis Association was held last evening. The statement of receipts and expenditure from October 1, 1911, to January 24, 1912, showed cash on deposit £60, and cash at bank £104 18s. Mr G. A. Hurley (Wellington delegate) moved that the New Zealand championships should, as far as possible, be held only in the four principal cities, alternatively in the North and South Islands. The mover stated that his ultimate goal in bringing the matter forward was to have one place in the Dominion made a home or Mecca for tennis. He did not care where the centres were. Mr A. L. Barry (Otago), seconded by Mr H. Brown (Canterbury) moved as... an amendment an addition that in the event of the championships being played in any other centre than Wellington the control of the meeting should be delegated to the local Association. The amendment was seen? by Mr C. White-Parsons (Canterbury), but the chairman ruled that it was not admissible. Much discussion ensued on the ruling. A motion that the meeting disagree with the ruling was lost. Mr Hurley moved that the meeting be adjourned for five weeks, and that a special meeting of the Council be held at the same time to consider Mr Brown's resolution. This was carried. A motion that a North 1 slant! and South Island singles championship, for ladies and gentlemen, be established, at a cost not to exceed twenty guineas, was held over till the adjourned meeting. T3ie application of the Hawke's Bay Association for a 1912 meeting was held over.
