FISHING.
Owing to the recent fresh in the various rivers, anglt'rs- did not meet with al iv success last week-end. However, xt is anticipated that, when the water clears again, some large fish Avill be caught. The anglers who visited the mouth of the Rangitata at the week-end discovered large numbers of eels lying on the shingle? which had evidently been washed tip by the tide. They were full of life, and when attacked made for the water. A good, number were killed and the remainder regained their natural habitation when the tide rose. The Opihi is the only fishing river that is clear to-day—all the others being dirty or discoloured.
