GENEEAL ELECTION.
Mr John McLachlan has been in Ashburton for several days, renewing old friendships and generally viewing the aspect of things in connection with the coming general election. He has now left for the more southerly portions of the electorate. In accordance with political etiquette, he will neither give public addresses nor form election committees until Parliament has dissolved.
Mr Tosland, of Pihama, has announced his candidature for Egmont in the democratic interests.
Mr J. M'Donald will contest one of the Dunedin seats—either South or Central—in the interests of Labour.
Mr P. ODea, of Hawera, has informed the "Taranaki News" that the report that he will stand down in favoiir of the Hon. T. Mackenzie for the Patea electorate is incorrect.
Mr P. Ke.egan, a farmer, of Whakatane, has been selected as the Government candidate to contest the Tauranga seat against Mr Herries.
