RE-AGGREGATION OF ESTATES.

TO THE EDITOK. Sir,—-In your issue of Friday, August 4th, you gave an account of a duel in the House of Representatives between Messrs G. Laurenson and C. A. C. Hardy as to whether the attendance in country schools had decreased or not. Mr Laurenson produced figures to prove that during the last ten.years the attendance had decreased, and said that the re-aggregation of land and the increase of land monopoly was the cause. The figures quoted for Lyndhurst School were: In 1899, average attendance, 34; in 1910, average attendance, 16. These figures are not only misleading, but entirely wrong." The attendance for those years being: —1899, average attendance, 16; and in 1910,. average attendance, 38. It will be seen that the evils of re-aggre-gation of land has not aifected the Lyndhurst district as yet. J. J. REESBY, Secretary School Committee. Lyndhunst, August 10,» 1911.
