SIR JOSEPH WARD'S PROTEST.
Per Press Association— Copyright. MELBOURNE, August 9. A Melbourne cable received by the Federal Government to-day, states that Sir Jaseph Ward, >vho is aboard the Ruapehu en route to Australia, was advised by wireless from Cocos Island of the proposed cession of Tahiti to Germany.... Sir Joseph Ward sent back to London a protest on behalf of New Zealand and other Governments. Sir Joseph-Ward's action caused somo amusement ml Federal circles. Apparently he is unaware that the rumour has been officially denied.
