LONGBEACH SCHOOL CONCERT.
A public concert in aid Of the prize fund of the Longbeach School wae held in the schoolroom last night, and was in every way a great success. Ibe attendance was very large, and the programme was carried out in excellent 6tyle, the clever singing of the school children, under the direction of Miss Watson, was especially well received by the audience. The programme comprised: Pianoforte solos by Misses Dore and Wooten; solos by Miss Watson (encore) and Messrs Lush and Gray; songs and choruses by school children; recitation by Mr Nunan (encored); tin-whistle solo, Mr Price (encored); step-dance by Mr Gray. Misses Watson, Wooten, and Gluyas and Mr Houlten were the accompanists. . Mr John McLauchlan (chairman of the School Committee) presided, and spoke of the work of the school and committee during the year. A t«nms court had been laid down, and a shelter-shed was under consideration. He urged on the parents.the necessity regular attendance on the part of [the school children.
Votes of thanks —and a special one to Miss Watson for training the children —were moved and heartily carried, and a very pleasant entertainment was brought to a close by the singing of the National Anthem.
A dance followed, and was kept up with much spirit for several hours. Messrs Houlten and Gray and Miss Wooten supplied the music. The proceeds of the whole entertainment amounted to about £12.
