ASSAULTING A VICAR.
Per Press Association.—Copyright. JReceived September 30, 11.30 a m LONDON, September 29!'. A number of masked men waylaid the Rev. John Lax, vicar of Stainmore, Westmoreland, and his schoolmistress. -The men bound, gagged, and tarred the vicar, and read a mock service. Subsequently eight young parishioners were arrested and fined £5. The crossexamination showed that the vicar was married, and suggested certain relations -with the schoolmistress.
