His Grace read a voluminous -paper on the evidences of Christianity j the object of which was to give a general survey of the subject, by which: was meant Catholicism as the only true and consistent Christianity, and 'also to answer the questions " Why should a man be a Catholic?" and "Why should a man profess any religion at all ?". The theme was dealt with under the two headings of natural religion, as supported by Nature and tho genesis of the religious idea m man,, and revealed religion as recorded m Scriptures. The modern philosophical explanation of religion was referred to as one that /did not deserve serious. consideration.
