On Wednesday evening between forty and fifty ladies and gentlemen assembled at the Catholic Boys' School for the purpose of forming a tennis club. 'MY T. M. Brophy, president of the Ashburton Catholic Club, presided. The matter was taken up witii great enthusiasm n;ul nearly all present .signified their intention of becoming members. The name selected was "The. St. .Mary's Tennis Club," and the following were elected to fill tho various offices: Patron, Very Rev. Dean O'Donnell; president, Mr M. J. Burgess; vice-presidents. Rev Father Ahem. Messrs T. Dowlinp, S. Madden, D. McDonnell, T. Langlev, H. P. Madden, F. Pritchard, J. Farivll, C S. Harper, T. Stanton, J. O'Grady, J McQuillan, T. Buckley, Dan M'cKendry, Dennis McKendry and E. L. Hanrahan; treasurer, Mr F. s! Brophy; secretary, Miss McCocker; committee, Mesdames Pritchard - Mc■Cormick and Walsh and Messrs F Pritchard, T. M., Brophy and J. Lennon. A meeting of the committee was held immediately afterwards, when various matters connected with the club were dealt with.
