RACING CLUB'S MEETING : A CORRECTION.

To the Editor. Sir, —Please allow me to correct the report that appeared m your paper last evening concerning the remarks I made at the Racing Club meeting on Tuesday. I did not say that more interest was taken m trots than m gallops; nor did I compare the two sports. I did not say that when trots were eliminated from the programmes at Timaru and Christchurch, there was a noticeable falling-off m the attendance; and I did not say that the trotting events were the most payable and successful races on the programme. When moving—"That it be a recommendation to the incoming committee that a trotting race be included m each day's programme as heretofore," I stated that it was m the interests of the Racing Club to do this, because many trotting people attended our race meetings who would not do so if it were-not for the trotting race on the programme; and I added that the experience of Timaru and . the Christchurch Racing Club had been that, when dropping the trot from their programme, the races substituted had proved a failure, whereas the trot had usually been one of the most payable races for the clubs. Mr Denshire, when seconding my motion, endorsed my remarks, which I am very sure he would not have done had I uttered the opinions attributed to me. H. F. NICOLL. Ashburton, June 24, 1909.
