DUNEDIN, June 22. The Hon. G. Fowlcls, interviewed by a Daily Times reporter rto-night, answered the objections of the Otago and Auckland Education Boards to the departmental " gran); for free ' reading books for Classes P. and 'Standards 1 and 2. The Minister traversed the contentions, of hot)j Hoards, aftd concluded by'saying i ((Oui' contention is this: that the use of free reading books of a non-continuous character is not m the best interests of good reading; further, that the grant is adequate to supply sufficient and suitable reading ! matter m Standards 1 and 2, and that it has been tried under business 'conditions by a good many of the Boards, with the result' that the 'contention of the Department! has been justified by their experience."
