THE TIMBER COMMISSION.
Per Press Association. WELLINGTON, June 23. i The report of the Timber Commisjsion has been signed, and will be forwarded to the Government to-day. The Post understands that a unanimous finding has been come to after a series of compromises. It is understood that the Commission will find that the importation of Oregon has not menac«d local industry, and that it will be recommended that long lengths of Oregon should be admitted free, and the duty on shorter lengths (which compete with local timbers) be increased by Is per 100 feet. . It is understood that the Commission also finds that the prices of tim!>er locally have not been unduly high; that the railway freights on timber should be reduced; that more up-to-date machinery for hauling logs should bo installed by sawmillers; and that reafforestation should be more rigorously pushed on by the Government
