' The Ashburton Football Club wrote asking permission to withdraw senior team from fixture against Rafcaia on Thursday next, owing to inability to get a sufficiently strong .team to'travel. —Granted. On the motion of Mr Cassells, seconded by Mr Siovwright, a fine of os was imnosed on the Club, for failing to keep its engagement for Thursday next. •■•'■' Mr Sievwright, on behalf of Mcthven Club, protested against the' Union granting; permits to Southern ; Cross players to assist another Club; in its matches, as it was considered. unfair packing. ; It was pointed out that what Mr Sievwright was complaining about originated with the Methven. Club's affiliation early in the season, when transfers had been granted straight out, | whereas with the players of Thursday only permits for the day had been allowed. Mr S. Baird wrote regarding a let- J ter which had appeared in a recent is-i sue of the Guardian reflecting on^ the play in one of the schools competition matches of Thursday last, characterising the same as- anything but 'a triie statement. The match had been 'played in a friendly spirit, and there was no sign of rough or malicious play! Mr Turtill, referee for the match in question, said that the way the boys conducted themselves on the field would bo worthy of repetition by senior teams. He had examined the footgear prior to starting and also later on in the game. One lad had been made to stand down from the commencement an this account. If there had been rough play (which was not indulged . in) it would only bo what one might expect after the behaviour of a spectator, who was continually inciting the Hampstead boys to play a more "willing game." The Union decided to warn the individual referred to. Referees were appointed as follows: Schools Competition—Borough A. v. Convent, on High School ground (Mr Pritchard); Borough B. v. High School B.
